second life is no different from the first tests in online services and communications done via AOL in the early 1990s. Before AOL the &quot;internet&quot; was closed small BBSs for tech hobbiests and a network for university scientists.

AOL applied the GUI - that was proven by APPLE a few years before to BE the key reason that brought the media business to digital computing.

Second Life has applied an immersive 3dgui to a level equal to AOLs inteface in 1989. &quot;Pundit&quot; bloggers, gamers,&quot;new&quot; web3d experts..lol will say it sucks..etc and compare it to the only thing &quot;they&quot; can see that has surface visual similarities- MMO GAMES like WOW. 

AOL sucks was the rally call from the nameless 234532.56 user of compuserve in 1989 as well...

Why Second Life for the next 12 months? Because it will teach those with no 3d ui marketing experience some of the lessons that will serve them for the next decade as the rest of the www becomes to look and behave more like Second Life and less like the AOL GUI that preceded it.</description>
